I have gotten wind that a certain fellow of my acquaintance is planning a stag party for the Lord Provost that he intends to throw upon a ship, if he is able.

[ And then, immediately proving that polite suspicion was the correct response, ]

I thought perhaps we might throw a party of our own for Mademoiselle Baudin. Also on a ship. For the purpose of joyfully raiding theirs. [ innocently: ] Have you thoughts on the matter?

[ mildly: ] The woman in question hardly wants the wedding, I believe. None of these proceedings are for her, they are for the people she seeks legitimacy for her marriage and for her husband from. [ A little wry humor creeps in, ] a facet of noble life she has not managed to escape, despite the Empress taking her title.

But it is not all bad. She will go home at the end of this married to the man she loves, who loves her, within the bounds of Chantry law, fully recognized by the society of which she is a part, even though the Lord Provost is not of this world. That is more than most who were born into the peerage get.

[ Bitter about something, Lexie? ]

If she is made so cross by the idea, she is welcome to sit, look beautiful, and drink an entire firkin of rum while the rest of us put on a show of joyful support and celebration and she and the Lord Provost can speak on how awful it was later in bed and be brought closer by it.

On the whole, we wish this wedding to be as exceptional and auspicious as possible, no? I know little more appropriate than a show of unity through bright merriment that can be easily seen by all the city and partaken in by its people. This is not simply a drunken irresponsible revel, despite the drunken irresponsible reveler who has fathered the scheme [ said very affectionately. ] In the end, this is rather a wedding gift. My attempt to garner them support. Increase their legitimacy, their status. Make of them a beloved fairy tale rather than the fallen elfblooded bastard child stripped of her status and a demon come from the Fade to take power in the very organization that is ostensibly combating such things.

[ beat ]

Not my thoughts, of course. Gigi is dear to me and I certainly do not believe Rifters demonic, but there are always whispers when the world changes. We must stamp on them or revel over them when we can.

Now, your other questions. To funding, I shall attempt to speak convincingly to the members of society in Kirkwall and be writing a few letters as well as contributing myself. To attendance, if I can manage to invite the entire city, I shall, but we shall of course not be placing them all upon the ships. Whatever is safe shall suffice, they can be rotated through. To raiding, I bow to your greater knowledge in regards to shipfighting and grant that perhaps being anchored at harbor is best. To your responsibility, well and so. This is why I have come to you rather than simply attempting to hire ship and crew!

Do watch out for Byerly, in that regard. He has ever been less bound by convention than I.

[ she'll definitely take the nudes though, ye ]
